O.B.L. Is D.O.A.

Osama bin Laden is dead.

But you already knew that. (Unless, of course, you live in a fortified bunker with no telephone or internet.)

When the word came from President Obama last night, it was a surprise to the entire world. I guess the bulk of us figured the President as more of a "search and seize" type of person. You know, bring him back alive so we can try him in our civilian court system. Instead, President Obama gave a group of men I'd never want to piss off the "seek and destroy" order. And they did just that efficiently and effectively. According to reports, there was only one civilian casualty ... and that was only because one of those brave terrorists used a woman as a human shield.

The last thing bin Laden saw was the front end of a bullet. Now he's buried in an unmarked grave.

Obviously there is a ton of written material on the Internet on this subject. So I won't expound upon it. I will, however, share a few thoughts:

• Osama bin Laden is dead. You don't need to see the pictures nor the video as proof. Let it go and get on with your life.
• If you think this was done as a political stunt to raise the President's flailing poll numbers, you are a cynic of the worst order.
• If you think this event will have any bearing on the 2012 election, you're wrong. And if you disagree with me, you're also an idiot.
• While this is a great day for America, it is not the end of The War On Terror. For every dead Osama bin Laden, there are 50 more waiting in the wings to rise and take his place.
  

Take this moment. It is yours. Do whatever you feel is proper to celebrate justice and/or to mourn again those we've lost because of this dead animal. But remember, our task is not finished. We are still the target of freedom-hating people everywhere.

Allow me to start:

Shoes On Other Feet

A common Liberal talking point is to paint conservatives as racist. Yes, some within the Republican party have made bigoted comments. But it seems often all that it takes to get one painted as a racist is to show any push-back to Obama, his agenda, or his policies. It's a good thing that the Democrats run such a tight ship, keeping their party members in line with the Liberal vision of a new America.

Huh? What's that?

It's interesting that Obama's flagging numbers on the economy have been driven not by white Republicans or white Independents but rather by white Democrats.

Since April, white Democratic approval of Obama's handling of the economy is down 20 points, from 80 percent to 60 percent. And, nearly as many white Democrats now strongly disapprove of how he's dealing with the issue as those who strongly approve (25 strongly disapprove; 28 strongly approve).

Hmm. I wonder how this narrative is going to fit into the Liberal propaganda machine?

Obama's Asshattery Continues

As if this news wasn't bad enough, the Obama administration announced that it's only the beginning of the Federal government's intrusion into state rights.

The Justice Department hasn't ruled out filing a second lawsuit challenging Arizona's immigration law if evidence shows racial profiling at work, Attorney General Eric Holder says.

Ignore the fact that the Arizona law specifically states that law enforcement is not permitted to racially profile. Still, Holder believes Arizona is way off base with this new law.

"The Arizona statute, if you look at the guts of it, really puts in place a whole variety of things that are inconsistent with what we have decided to do as a federal government," Holder said.

Of course the Arizona statute is inconsistent with things the Federal government has decided to do ... which would be nothing at all. The fact that Arizona has been forced to do something due to the Fed's inaction should force Holder (or someone) to re-evaluate the Federal government's response to the immigration problem. Instead, they all chose to bury their heads in the sand. That's right, they've decided to follow The Clancy Doctrine.

At least other state governors are alarmed at the Federal response to Arizona.

Democratic governors expressed "grave" concerns to White House officials this weekend about the Obama administration's suit against Arizona's new immigration law [...]

Thank the gods that some people in authority in this country find this toxic. Way to stick up for Arizona, people.

[...] warning it could cost the party in crucial elections this fall, The New York Times reported late Sunday.

Oh. I'm sorry. I thought for one moment there that you were more concerned about the precedent being set here. I mean, If Obama's Federal government could step all over state rights, wouldn't you think that (maybe, perhaps) a future, enterprising Republican Federal government might think they could do the same? I guess not.

At least the Justice Department is pursuing cases with merit, right?

Right?!

Ruh-Oh!

The Obama Administration recently officially announced that the United States was suing the State of Arizona over its recently passed immigration law. This move was first announced last month by an administration official while on official business in Ecuador.

To say it's raised some eyebrows would be a drastic understatement. In fact, I just read that it's become such a hot potato that the White House is already starting to warm up the "Hope and Change" Bus for another turn around the neighborhood.

The White House has said the decision to challenge Arizona's immigration law was out of its hands, left completely up to Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. and the lawyers at the Justice Department.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but I have always been led to believe that the President sets the agenda and that the President directs his staff to act on issues he wants addressed. But, even eighteen months into his Presidency, I'm willing to give President Obama the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure that if the White House says that Holder is acting on his own, then it must be the case.

It's bad enough that the President is so ashamed of his country that he has to apologize the the whole world. Does he also have to whif at his Presidential duties?

When A President Gaffes, We Should Turn A Blind Ear.

Tipped off by Jimmie, I went over and read this article and nearly choked on my coffee right out of the gate.

Instant Internet communication and an explosion in political commentary are magnifying President Obama's gaffes and administration missteps, and could erode his popularity faster than that of other presidents, say experts from both left and right.

I agree with Ms. Johnson. We should take it easy and back off the President a bit. I mean, it would just be wrong, mean-spirited, and uncouth to focus our attention on the President every time he "misspeaks", wouldn't it?

"Yeah. I don't want to cure anybody here. They all deserve to have whatever they have."

That quote is taken from Pete's Dragon, a 1977 Walt Disney movie. In the movie is Doc Terminus, a "salesman" who isn't all that he appears, as he peddles his powerless "cures" onto the town's pliable population. It's a timely quote because it sums up what your government thinks of you.

While the President puts on his best Doc Terminus impression and members on Congress struggle hard to find a middle ground, I think it would help us, the ones who will be paying for all of this, to reflect on what came of the first bailout:

The Bush administration overpaid tens of billions of dollars for stocks and other assets in its massive bailout last year of Wall Street banks and financial institutions, a new study by a government watchdog says.

The Congressional Oversight Panel, in a report released Friday, said last year's overpayments amounted to a taxpayer-financed $78 billion subsidy of the firms.

But this is the Obama administration and the Democrats have the majority in Congress. Hope! Change!

Mmm hmm. Would you like some snake oil with that hope and change?

But I do have to agree with the good Doc ... neither Congress nor this President wants to cure us; they only want to expand on their wealth and power. If we allow them to push through this "economic stimulus recovery", then we deserve to have whatever we have.

Obama Economic Plan - Quote Of The Day

Maybe you've heard that President Obama's economic recovery plan now tops more than $900 billion. To help you grasp how much that is, here is a quote from Temple University math professor and author John Allen Paulos:

A million dollars a day for 2,000 years is only three-quarters of a trillion dollars. It's a big number no matter how you slice it. A million seconds is about 11½ days. A billion seconds is about 32 years, and a trillion seconds is 32,000 years. People tend to lump them together, perhaps because they rhyme, but if you think of it in terms of a jail sentence, do you want to go to jail for 11½ days or 32 years or maybe 32,000 years? So, they're vastly different, and people generally don't really have a real visceral grasp of the differences among them.

Let's look at that again ... a trillion seconds equals 32,000 years. That is the jail sentence that the President wants to impose on us, the American people.

Let that sink in for a moment. Then get mad that your government wants to make us foot this monsterous bill for something that more than likely isn't necessary and won't work.

A Passing Phase Or A Taste Of Things To Come?

Looking over the list of parties happening in the city over the course of this inauguration week/end, keeping in mind the Big Concert On The Mall yesterday, and knowing that the biggest Rock Star President Of Probably Ever will be sworn in tomorrow, one cannot help but think of all of the celebrities crawling all over our fair District. And then one is led to think, will D.C. become the next celebritropolis?

The beauty of the District is that we see so many powerful and famous people here that we're pretty jaded over the Cult Of Personality. I can't see why rockers, big ballers, Hollywood royalty, or any other person accustomed to the spotlight wouldn't feel comfortable playing in our little sandbox. They can come here and have pretty good assurance that they won't be hassled by the locals.

Yet this is Washington, D.C. We are known for our politics, our conservative lifestyle, our ... antisocial attitude. That's not really the petri dish of adulation and worship that private-life stars require to survive. It is that subconscious need to be harassed that keeps the rich and famous in places like New York City and Los Angeles.

Besides, do the citizens of D.C. really want any more prima donnas roaming around all leash-less and whatnot? It's bad enough that we have the President, Vice President, members of Congress, members of the City Council, various ANC commissioners, and transplants from NYC, LA, SF, Dallas, so on and so forth. How much more ego can be shoehorned into our 68.3 square miles of heaven?

Perhaps Barack-N-Roll will be the final piece in Washington's long, yet unspoken, quest for respect from the world's social elite. Perhaps with his coming, our city will attract the same level of snobbery that infests the boroughs of New York City and Milan, the districts of Paris, and the neighborhoods of Los Angeles.

Or perhaps, when this inauguration is over the kings and queens of culture will return from whence they came ... only to return for hearings in front of a Congressional board or as elected (or appointed) members of our Federal government.

Democrats: The Best Form Of Torture

Who knew that the way to get terrorists to crack was to elect a Democratic President?

The alleged mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks and four co-defendants told a military judge Monday they want to immediately confess at their war-crimes tribunal, setting up likely guilty pleas and their possible executions.

The five said they decided on Nov. 4, the day President-elect Barack Obama was elected to the White House, to abandon all defenses against the capital charges.

Wow! Maybe change is good!

News Flash!

The Washington Post admits that it was in the tank for Barack Obama. This is shocking not in that they wrote more favorably about the now President-Elect but that they outright admit it. I hope that the lesson they learned in this past election cycle is that they should cover all candidates equally and fairly.

And that, my faithful readers, is the last you will hear from me about this finally over Presidential election. Now, let's move on.

Will This Election Bridge The Race Divide? (EXPLICIT!)

I was in the Dupont Circle Chipotle on Monday, 03 November, where I also used the bathroom. It was a clean bathroom.

I was in the Dupont Circle Chipotle today, 05 November, where I used the bathroom again. And this is what I saw.

First is an outgoing message to our current President, "Good Bye George W. Bush!!! and take your Damn Mexican Slaves with you!"


Next is presumably another outgoing message to our current President, "Go Back To Texas Bitch!!!"


Next is a shiny bit of patriotism, "This is U.S.A.!!!"


And finally is my favorite, written on the door, "Fuck yall white Mothafucka's!"


One day after the election. Several months after Barack Obama's famous speech on race. Now I'm not naïve. It's been forty years since the civil rights movement and black and white still can't seem to get along very well. But if this country has bought the ideas of "hope" and "change", well dammit ... get over it, move on, and grow up. Because, if this election has proven anything it's that race is no longer a barrier.

Get over it. Move on. Grow up.

While I think Rusty at Why.I.Hate.DC. is a douche and complains too much about petty issues and is flat-out wrong on others, I have to agree with him 100% on a piece of news on which he commented today. That news, reported by Mark Segraves with WTOP Radio, is about Mayor Mari ... I mean ... Adrian Fenty and the over $50,000 he's charged District taxpayers for his campaigning across the country for Senator Barack Obama. All I really have to say is that I railed against electing him for mayor on my previous, and now-defunct, blog site. I told you all that Adrian Fenty was a populist con artist and that his administration would be the second-(or would that be third-)coming of the Marion Barry years. But you District residents overwhelmingly voted him into office. Well, you deserve the government you elect. I hope you do better on this whole Presidential election thing.

Two-Fer
Schools Chancellor Michelle A. Rhee has stated that she is planning on being Schools Chancellor for seven more years. While this decision is partly out of her hands, I do hope that she decides to stick this through and that future city administrations keep her on for as long as she wants to stay. As I've said before, hiring Chancellor Rhee was probably the smartest thing Mayor Fenty has done so far. She's intelligent, innovative, committed, and not afraid to make the right decisions for the benefit of the city's children, regardless of how many special interest groups she pisses off. Kudos you, Chancellor!
